Waste Time with Your Kids: Advice from a Guy Who “Gets It”

popefrancisVia

Hey there friends, happy favorite day of the week!

I’ve got an awesome quote – really a challenge – to share with you as we all kick off the weekend today.

I attend a mom’s group here in Charlotte called Mothering with Grace. At this month’s meeting, our handout included this quote from Pope Francis, and it’s been on my mind ever since:

“Life is often wearisome. Work is tiring…but what is most burdensome is a lack of love. It weighs upon us to never receive a smile, not to be welcomed.

Certain silences are oppressive, even at times within families, between husbands and wives, between parents and children, among siblings.

Do you play with your children? Do you waste time with your children? The free gift of a parent’s time is so important.”

Parents, right from the mouth of the Holy Father, here’s our challenge for this weekend, and for all of life. Let’s be sure to waste LOTS of time this weekend. Let’s waste it with our spouses, with our relatives and friends, and most especially with our children.

Life might be wearisome, but where there is lots of time “wasted” together, there is love and adventure and memories. Who could possibly ask for more?

Have a blessed one!

xo,

Steph

PS. If any of you moms are interested in starting a mom’s group in your area, Mothering with Grace has a full curriculum that is super easy to implement in your community. Meetings consist of an hour of facilitated study and discussion (usually on a virtue or theme) followed by an hour of fellowship and socializing. Visit their website for details!

  3. I have been following your blog for so long, and was so excited that you got to meet my dearest friend, Jessica. Such a small world. We’ve actually talked about starting MWG up here in Massachusetts. Your family is precious – I can relate to so much of what you write (I have three boys as well). Thank you for sharing a small part of your life – it is always encouraging to read your words!

    • Aw Lauren it’s been such a blessing to know Jessica! And she speaks so lovingly of you 🙂 hope we can meet someday!
